Sunday Best

I have decided to use up my fabric stash(made of up poor quality/cheap purchases made throughout the past few years) by making an outfit to wear to church each Sunday. Last week I wore a skirt and top I made from Simplicity Threads 2758 , view E and Butterick B5357. I used a grey double knit(purchased form Fabric Mart) for the skirt and a multi-colored sheer(purchased from Jomar's) for the top. And a self drafted tank made from the skirt material for modesty.
I am totally happy with the skirt but the next time I make the top I will have to figure out different way to insert the elastic, it looked a little home made(however, when I told some of the congregation that I made it they were surprised).
I think by the time I work my way through the stash my sewing skills will have greatly improved.

My home computer is acting up so I will have to post pictures when I can.

Next up:
A dress made from Simplicity 3622 view C w/ view A sleeves, in a black and white sheer stretch fabric that I underlined with a black stretch nylon I purchased from Jomar's here in Philly. Hopefully I will finish it by Sunday!

I have been charged!

Today my pastor reminded us of our mission as Christians: To go and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Matthew 28:19.

So I am inviting anyone who happens to be in Philly one Sunday morning at 11:00am to come and fellowship with us at the Abyssinian Baptist Church @ 4210 Germantown Ave. To hear the word of God "teached and preached" to us by Pastor George Pointer. We are "The Friendly Church" and our pastor's motto is "Fall in Love With Jesus"

Hope to see you there!

Best laid plans....

Well I went to Joann's on the 4th and of course they did not have the pattern that I wanted to wear to my pastor's anniversary dinner. I should have known better! McCall's pattern were on sale and the pattern was new for Fall. I searched and searched ( all pattern companies, you know I was desperate because cost was not an issue) until I found McCall's 5751. It seemed simple enough, I have decided to stick with simple projects for a few months to build up my confidence.

I had to hand sew the corners of the contrast to the front as I could not get it to line up correctly without this hand stitching. As usual I had fitting problems. I cut out a 14 and the dress was huge. But since I did not start it until 8/12 and the dinner was the following evening, I had to sink or swim. I choose to swim(in the dress). I belted it and pulled out my new shoes, which are entirely too high for me and had a good time.

P.S.
I think I am obsessed with grey!

P.P.S.
Wednesday night I cut out a shirt pattern and hopefully I will finish it tomorrow.

My mom is my best girlfriend....

After an unexpected breast biopsy I needed a little "pick me up". I begged(she bought more fabric than i did!) my mother to go to Gaffney Fabrics to buy fabric for McCall's 5972. I fell in love with this after seeing their fall patterns link on Adrienne's blog. I purchase a grey and black tweedish wool blend and a black georgette for the contrast (I will be making view c).

Now I only hope that my Joanne's has the pattern. I want to wear it to my pastor's anniversary dinner on the 13th. I will pick up the binding , zipper and bias fold tape this afternoon at Joanne's.

I am also working on Simplicity's 3631, which I have coveted secretly ever since some of my favorite bloggers (Erica & Tearsa) reviewed their creations a year ago! I had to stop because i ran out interfacing. I picked some up last night.

Hopefully I will have some pictures to post soon.

God Bless

As promised(drum roll in my head).....

Here are pictures of Simplicty 2922.

I made this using a linen blend. I wore it on Easter 2009. I really like the Project Runway patterns. I am not so creative when it comes to changing patterns for a different look, so these are great.

The camping trip was great even though it rained at some point every day.

Tomorrow I will show the UFO's I mentioned last post.

It's the G>O>D in me!

I found a blog the other day and it was written by a mother of three who was having a hard time with her sewing mojo. Her story seems very familiar to me! She commented on feelings of inferiority to the other sewers whose blogs she reads.
I CAN SO RELATE!
However, I have decided to do my thing. Not to worry about measuring up, to stop dreaming of all of the garments that I am going to make and start making them!

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!

We are going camping this coming weekend. When I return, I am going to show the one completed dress that I have made and report on the various stages of completion of a few other items that I have as UFO's.

That is unless I get eaten by a bear.

Sports Theme Diaper Cake...

My new favorite thing to do. I made this for a cousin's baby shower.
