Works in progress....

This is the second time I cut out a chevron going down when I wanted it to go up!

The green is washed out in the picture, it is more lime than mint.

"By the Skin of My Teeth" OR " Who Are They and Who Gave Them Authority!"

Well I finished  Simplicity 2633, view with pleated sleeves,  and 5005 and wore them on the last Sunday before Labor Day. I was up until after 1am. And then got back up 11/2 hours earlier than necessary to finish.

I removed the ruined bias binding and only used it along the hem of the jacket and skirt. I made a self belt to wear with it. i had the dickens of a time with the sleeves. I just could not understand the illustrations in the directions. I finally got it and then they went together very easily.

The outfit sort of makes me look like a church nurse..I think it is the belt that did it.

Whew! I am so relieved that I finished this and wore it on 9/4/10, who knows what "THEY would have done to me for wearing white after Labor day!

Next up... Simplicty 2659 Veiw A

Biting off more than I can chew OR delusions of grandeur

Why can't I just follow the directions on a pattern and sew it as is. You would think that I would learn my lesson from the boxload of UFO's that clutter my dining room.

I decided to finish Simplicity 5005(which only needs the waist treatment and to be hemmed) and to make Simplicity 2633PR to go along with it. I wanted to wear it on 8/1 as we are to wear white on 1st Sundays. I cut the pattern out during the week and decided that I could complete both peices on Saturday.

On Saturday I decided to make bias binding to trim the collar, faux pockets and button placket and the hem of the jacket and the skirt. I have nver made bias tape before in my life and only really used it successfully once.

Needless to say at 11:30pm I gave up. I need to take the binding back off and take me time in reattaching it. I never got to the sleeves, which were what pulled me to that pattern. and the skirt remains in the same state I found it in on Saturday morning.

IN MY MIND I AM A SKILLED FASHION DESIGNER AND SEWIST. In reality I am no way near there yet. But I will keep running the race!

Ain't no stopping me now...

I finished Simplicity 3622 view C w/ view A sleeves, last night. If I saw this dress in a store I would not gravitate toward it, but I made it and I am proud of my perseverance. I had a hard time with the two layers of stretch fabric and then trouble with the casing for the elastic at the waist.

I will proudly wear this on Sunday. All in all I would make this again but in a single layer and a brighter color.

I am waiting on a fabric order from Fabric.com to work on a few skirts(I know I said that I was going to work entirely out of my stash but truth be told my stash stinks. LOL).

For now, next up is Simplicity 2603. Misses Knit Top and Cardi-Wrap. I am using a Poly/spandex/ jersey knit in "Orange Creme" I have had this fabric for a few years now and I only have 3 yards, so hopefully I can "make it work"

God Bless

Sunday Best

I have decided to use up my fabric stash(made of up poor quality/cheap purchases made throughout the past few years) by making an outfit to wear to church each Sunday. Last week I wore a skirt and top I made from Simplicity Threads 2758 , view E and Butterick B5357. I used a grey double knit(purchased form Fabric Mart) for the skirt and a multi-colored sheer(purchased from Jomar's) for the top. And a self drafted tank made from the skirt material for modesty.
I am totally happy with the skirt but the next time I make the top I will have to figure out different way to insert the elastic, it looked a little home made(however, when I told some of the congregation that I made it they were surprised).
I think by the time I work my way through the stash my sewing skills will have greatly improved.

My home computer is acting up so I will have to post pictures when I can.

Next up:
A dress made from Simplicity 3622 view C w/ view A sleeves, in a black and white sheer stretch fabric that I underlined with a black stretch nylon I purchased from Jomar's here in Philly. Hopefully I will finish it by Sunday!
