Ayyy Matey....

So I finished McCall's 6470 view b.  I will call it a wearable muslin.  The shiny fabric (satin)  that I used and the design of the blouse made me think of swashbuckling (and Seinfeld's puffy shirt).

My machine was acting up during the topstitching of the neckband so I had to do a lot of pulling the tread through to the underside, because each time I stopped stitching the tension of the top thread would leave a loop. I must get my machine serviced soon! I tried adjusting everything from the stitch length and the tension to another sewing needle.

However, I do see the potential in this. I will make it again in a gauze, lengthen the bodice and remove some of the width in the sleeves at the wrist. I like the elastic that I added at the hem so I will keep that.

Here is the blouse on Dee:

On to the next one.

Shopping in the City...

My mom and I had a great time in NYC. Mood was amazing and overwhelming. I had a picture from Mood on my cell but I can not rotate it. Also went to M & J Trimmings.
Already made resevations to go back next month.  I have a formal event and my daughter's prom is in May.

I am currently working McCall's 6470 view b.
I should have lengthened it but my goal is to sew and if I come out with something wearable I am going to call that a plus!

NYC or bust!...

For my birthday I was thinking about taking the day off work and visiting the Garment District in NYC.
I thought that I would be traveling alone, but when I mentioned my plans to my mother, she jumped aboard.  What a nice birthday present.

We will be taking the Mega.bus for the first time so I will let you know how that works out.

Whatever happens I will be thankful for spending the day with my mom.

Resolution?

I have been reading a lot of inspirational post about changing habits and putting in the work needed to achieve personal goals.
If I cannot do anything I can dream, but a dream is really nothing without the work to bring the dream into fruition.

I have decided to change some habits and start living my life as a conqueror. My God tells me that I am more than a conqueror. If (since) I confess that I believe God's Word than I can not pick and choose which parts I am going to live out...
My resolves:

To dedicate at least 45 minutes a day to devotion to God(reading, praying, singing dance)
To do something sewing related five days a week for at least 20 mins.

To do some form of exercise five days a week for at least 30 mins.
To spend more quality time with my husband.

To spend more productive quality time with my youngest daughter.

To drive at least once a week.

I am going to print this out and place it on my night stand in a frame.

 To God be the glory!

"Two week scramble" or "of course I am happy your home"

Hi.

I have two weeks to sew in my son's bedroom sewing room, until he is back again, this time for winter break.

Let's see what I can acomplish!

Fabric goodness or stash building

Just recieved a package from Fabric Mart...

Five colors of a Linen Blend Jersey and two cuts of an Iridescent Taffeta(orange and purple).

The jersey is for lounge wear and the taffeta is "possible" fabric for my DD jr. prom.

First project of 2012 (only two months left..LOL)

I let my fabric decide the pattern I chose.

Vogue 1324  Donna Karen collection

Semi fitted, lined tapered skirt has raised waist with band, side panels, no side seams, invisible back zipper and vent. Seams and darts have top stitching and edge stitching.

main fabric -  silk/cotton suiting, cream, metallic silver.. purchase from Fabric Mart

I ordered the fabric online and received it in just two days later.... When I saw it I contemplated returning it . The color was darker than I had expected and the the fabric seemed a little "old" looking. But then v1324 came to mind and I thought that the seams and the edge/top stitching would give the fabric a more modern edge.

I decided to muslin the skirt and I am glad that I did. I had purchase pattern which had sizes 6-12.

I also ran into a problem attaching the waist band as per the instructions.  I check pattern review and there was only one review so far and the reviewer used leather so she had to alter the way she attached the band due to bulk... I decided that I would make it work.

The pattern is advanced( attaching the waistband is the only advanced part IMO) and I am by no means advanced but I am not going to let that stop me!

I "graded up" the pattern to fit my measurements and have started a new muslin.

Until next time!

Blessing,
Dawn
